AS BATRAW GROWS, RECYCLIA MAKES IT ROAR

It is time to see what Recyclia has been up to lately!

As leaders of Communication and Dissemination activities, the company based in Madrid (Spain) has been busy spreading updates among internal and external partners as well as reaching out to potential collaborators and the wider audience. For the latter, Recyclia has recently released an explainer video of BATRAW, and so, in just under 2 minutes, all followers in YouTube, LinkedIn and X can learn and understand the goals and strategies pursued by the project.

To engage stakeholders from the sector, Recyclia has collaborated with multiple specialized national magazines. Consequently, BATRAW has been showcased in articles from Industriambiente, Econoticias, and ElPeriodicoDeLaEnergía. However, dissemination efforts are of course not limited to Spanish borders. Last December, Singapore hosted the 2023 Asia INT Li-ion Battery Recycling Summit, where Mr. José Pérez and Mr. Gonzalo Torralbo, CEO and CCO of Recyclia, on behalf of BATRAW, shared an overview of the project with all participants, who showed genuine interest.

Besides all these special events, Recyclia has kept on feeding BATRAW’s social networks with weekly updates. What is more, to celebrate the “International Day of Women and Girls in Science”, Recyclia used LinkedIn and X platforms to ask the female community about the challenges women encounter at work and the impact they can have. Results showed that much work remains undone to reach equality and justice, despite its invaluable benefits. So, let’s keep working!

FORD OTOSAN, ENSURING SUSTAINABLE RESULTS VIA LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT

As a part of WP7, Ford Otosan is responsible for assessing Turkish EV battery recycling status and running an LCA study to compare recycling options in Turkey and EU. Currently, the team is leading the collection of life cycle inventory data for two different routes: transportation of EV batteries to BeePlanet and recycling EV batteries in Turkish external recycling partner Exitcom.

After sending different types of EV batteries to BATRAW partner BeePlanet, Ford Otosan has now focused on investigating the environmental impact of this transportation via LCA study. Regarding Turkish EV battery recycling options, the company is making inquiries to Exitcom. As a part of this strategic alliance, the team visited the facilities and exchanged information regarding recycling methodologies applied, chemicals used, and raw materials extracted under Exitcom roof.

In the meantime, goal, scope and functional unit as crucial corner stones of an LCA are being discussed with Leitat for a commonground. By turning this cumulative information into life cycle inventory data, the LCA study is slowly taking shape. Considering second life applications of End-of-Life EV batteries, another visit was made to Pomega, an LFP battery manufacturing company in Turkey. The results of this visit will contribute to the creation of additional second-life options that will complement those currently under development by BeePlanet.
