Work must go on!

Summertime is coming to an end, and BATRAW’s gears are moving again… The work must go on! However, the project was not at a complete standstill during these months. Thanks to the fruitful efforts of our partners, we have some compelling breakthroughs to present today. Here we go!

In this occasion we dedicate these lines to one of our French partners. Among other task actions, CEA-LITEN is working on the synthesis of cathode active material (CAM) for BATRAW project purposes. The aim is to compare performances of CAM synthesised with recycled materials obtained in the project, compared to reference materials produced with commercial precursors.

A special achievement has been successfully reached in July 2024 with the synthesis by CEA-LITEN of a first 50 g reference batch of Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt-Oxide (NMC) CAM powder. The batch picture can be seen below.

Synthetized Cathode Active Material (CAM).

It has been obtained thanks to a co-precipitation synthesis route, with a first liquid step in a dedicated stirred reactor and a second dry step in a pilot scale oven with controlled oxygen flux. This first synthesis will lead to physic-chemical and electrochemical analysis. It is paving the way to a standard testing methodology between BATRAW partners for comparing performances between CAM coming from commercial versus recycled reactants, in the aim of highlighting the efficiency of recycling routes of BATRAW project.

As the project enters its final stages, it produces more and more outcomes. Do not forget to subscribe to our newsletter to stay up to date with the latest news!
